Smart, active, and sometimes sensitive-stomached — here's how to treat a GSD right.
German Shepherds are working dogs at heart — intelligent, athletic, and highly trainable. Two things to keep in mind when treating them: many GSDs have sensitive digestion, and as a large, deep-chested breed they benefit from careful, not excessive, feeding.
Gentle on the gut. Sensitive stomachs are common in the breed, so simple, single-ingredient treats are your friend — one recognizable protein or veggie, nothing artificial. It's easier to spot what agrees with your dog.
Fuel the brain. GSDs thrive on training and jobs. Small, clean treats used for reinforcement keep that big brain busy without a calorie overload.
