Summer Treats to Keep Your Dog Cool (Safe Frozen Ideas)

Beat-the-heat treats that are actually safe — frozen, hydrating, and simple.

By The EveryPetHaven Kitchen team · August 4, 2026

When temperatures climb, treats can do double duty: a reward AND a way to help your dog cool down and stay hydrated. Dogs don't sweat like we do — they rely on panting — so heat is genuinely risky, especially for flat-faced breeds, thick coats, and high-energy dogs.

Frozen fruit bites. Freeze dog-safe fruit like watermelon (no seeds or rind) or blueberries for a cool, low-calorie treat after a walk. Simple and refreshing.

Frozen banana + peanut butter. Mash ripe banana with a little peanut butter — check the label to be sure it's xylitol-free, which is toxic to dogs — and freeze in small molds.

Plain frozen yogurt bites. A little plain, unsweetened yogurt frozen into small drops works for many dogs (skip it if yours is very lactose-sensitive, and never use flavored yogurt with xylitol).

Chilled bone broth or coconut water. Plain bone broth or unsweetened coconut water, served cold or slushy, adds hydration and flavor.

A few safety rules: keep treats to about 10% of daily calories, introduce new foods slowly, and always have fresh water available. Not sure a fruit is safe? Our can-my-pet-eat guide covers the common ones: everypethaven.com/blog/can-my-pet-eat/.

Our fresh, gently-dehydrated single-ingredient treats work great year-round — and crumbled over a little frozen broth, they make a perfect summer topper. We're launching on Kickstarter; join the list at everypethaven.com/kickstarter.

General information, not veterinary advice. If your dog shows signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling, weakness — cool them down and call your vet right away.
