Poodles and doodles are smart, food-motivated, and — let's be honest — a little particular. (We'd know: EveryPetHaven Kitchen started with two toy poodles, Milo and Luna.) When you're choosing treats for a poodle or any small breed, a few things matter more than for big dogs.
Size and texture. Small mouths do better with small, training-bite pieces or treats that break easily. Big, dense chews meant for large dogs can be a choking risk and are simply too many calories for a little body.
Calorie awareness. Small dogs need far fewer calories, so treats add up fast. A good rule of thumb is keeping treats to a small fraction of daily calories. Single-ingredient treats make it easy to know exactly what you're giving.
Simple, gentle ingredients. Poodles can have sensitive stomachs and skin, so fewer ingredients usually means fewer surprises. Look for one recognizable ingredient — sweet potato, chicken, salmon — and skip the fillers, artificial colors, and mystery "meals."
Training-friendly. Because poodles are so trainable, soft or easily-broken treats you can dole out in tiny pieces are gold for reinforcement.
