🌾 Food allergies & sensitivities
How to spot a food reaction and pick meals your pet can actually tolerate.
Food allergies show up on the skin and in the gut. Watch for itchy skin, recurring ear infections, paw licking, or loose stools that don't settle.
True food allergies are less common than sensitivities, and the usual triggers are specific proteins - chicken, beef, dairy, egg - rather than grain. Grain-free is not automatically safer; it just removes one possible ingredient.
The only reliable way to find a trigger is a vet-guided elimination diet: feed a single novel protein for 8-12 weeks, then reintroduce foods one at a time. Keep a food-and-symptom log while you do it.
Once you know what to avoid, set it in your pet's profile so recommendations skip anything that contains it.
